Ertugrul Ghazi is a historical figure dating back to the 13th century, belonging to the indigenous “Kay tribe. His struggle for religious autonomy from neighboring Christian states is well documented, resulting in large territorial conquests in the name of islam. Despite being a great conqueror, Ertugrul’s name is remembered due to his son’s establishment of one of history’s most iconic Muslim empires. Attributed as “Father of the Ottoman Empire, the Turkic leader enjoys a unique position in the pantheon of Islamic historical leaders. At its peak, the Ottoman Empire encompassed most of South eastern Europe, right up to the gates of Vienna, its dominion also extended over present-day Hungary, the Balkan region, Greece, Parts of Ukraine, North Africa as far west as Algeria and large swaths of the Arabian Peninsula. Indeed, his character is an absolute manifestation of courage, faith, and honor and can be used as a blueprint to fulfil one’s primitive drive for religious/social hero status.
